建築家だけでなく画家としての顔も持っていたLe Corbusierは、1918年よりピューリズムを体現する試みを画家Amédée Ozenfantと共に行っていた。形と色の関係を元に『large gamma』と呼ばれる黄色とレッドオーカー、アースカラー、白、黒、ウルトラマリン、そしてこれらの色から派生した混色の定量を定める。Le Corbusierはこの『the architectonic colour』という語彙を用いて、ガンマと建築の間にある重大な関連性に触れる。
